My favorite sports event

My favorite sports event is from a Manchester United match in 2011 against Manchester City. It was a cup game at Old Trafford. A couple of weeks before this game, there had been written a lot about Wayne Rooney in the media. Rumors about him going to City or another club in Europe, and that his relationship to Sir Alex Ferguson wasn’t that good anymore. It was several things that might affect the match. City had established in the top Premier League the recent years, and it was a local derby as well. The whole town of Manchester was turned upside down before this match.
United took the lead by Luis Nani, but later Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko scored and the score was 1-1. The fans of both teams were singing songs about the players on the opposite team, trying to make them loose their head. Ten minutes left, Nani crossed the ball into the penalty area. The ball hit Manchester City’s Micah Richards and changed direction. Inside the box several United players came running, Wayne Rooney as well. The ball came high and behind Rooney. No one, included myself, thought that he could do anything about it. Then he just threw himself and did a marvelous bicycle kick, and the ball went into the upper right corner. What a revenge! This was a kind of confirm from Rooney that he still wanted to play for Manchester United and to do his best for the club. It was also a winning goal. United sent City out of the FA cup with the score 2-1.
My stepbrother was at Old Trafford that day, and I remember receiving a text message from him that said: “Incredible!!”
This is definitely my favorite moment, and I’m sure a lot of other Manchester United fans agree with me.
